Houston, we have a problem.

As a world community of 7 billion people we're living beyond our means. We're consuming natural resources at a faster rate than the earth can renew them—and in the process, we're degrading the earth's capacity for renewal by dumping waste into the atmosphere and the environment. Consider that we'll add another billion people by 2025—that millions more people will achieve a middle-class consuming lifestyle—and you can see that this is not a sustainable path.

Significant lifestyle change is inevitable.

This is not a problem that may occur some years from now. This is a problem right now and it's growing worse every day. The sooner we begin the process of change the better. Ideally, governments around the world would institute policies that encourage eco-friendly styles of living, but we can't afford to wait for governments to lead in today's polarized world.

There's a role for every one of us.

We advocate a Life Planning process that enables you to examine your current lifestyle and make choices that balance personal interests with community and world interests.

Modern telecommunications make it abundantly clear that all communities are interconnected—that your immediate community is impacted by other communities in this country and around the world. We are social animals and the communities in which we live and work are integral to our well-being. If any of us is to enjoy a high quality of life going forward, we must work for healthy communities around the world.

Take a look at The Challenge for a look at some of the specific issues we face in the U.S.

When you think deeply about quality of life issues, you inevitably begin to see how the communities in which we live and work impact our daily lives. Individual renewal and community renewal are inseparable. Healthy, safe communities are essential for healthy people.
